About Us

Islamic Center of Inglewood

Welcome to the Islamic Center of Inglewood, a vibrant hub of faith, community, and education nestled in the heart of Southern California. Our center has a rich history, rooted in the growth and evolution of the Muslim community in this diverse region.

Established in 1971, the Islamic Center of Inglewood, also known as Masjid-ul-Islam, was founded by a dedicated group of individuals committed to providing a place of worship, education, and fellowship for Muslims in the area. Over the decades, our center has grown and evolved alongside the community it serves, adapting to the changing needs and dynamics of our diverse congregation.

Our journey began in the 1960s, a time of transformation in American immigration policy, which opened doors for people from all corners of the globe to make their home in the United States. The passing of new immigration laws in 1964 paved the way for increased immigration from Asian, African, and Middle Eastern countries, leading to the arrival of many Muslim families in Southern California.

In this context of growth and change, the Islamic Center of Inglewood emerged as a focal point for the Muslim community, providing a space for worship, education, and community engagement. From humble beginnings in rented apartments and halls, our center has grown to become a cornerstone of the Muslim community in Inglewood and beyond.

Throughout the years, our center has been blessed with the presence of esteemed individuals, including the legendary basketball player Kareem Abdul Jabbar, who embraced Islam and found solace in our community. His visits to our center, along with other notable figures, have left an indelible mark on our history and identity.

In addition to providing a space for worship, the Islamic Center of Inglewood has always been dedicated to nurturing the minds and hearts of our community members. Our Islamic Weekend School, established in the 1970s, has been instrumental in teaching Quran, Hadith, and Islamic ethics to generations of children and adults, ensuring the preservation and transmission of our faith and values.

As we look to the future, the Islamic Center of Inglewood remains committed to serving the needs of our community and fostering a sense of belonging and connection among all who enter our doors. With the grace of Allah, we continue to grow and evolve, guided by the principles of faith, compassion, and service.

We invite you to join us on this journey of faith and community, as we strive to uphold the teachings of Islam and build a brighter future for generations to come. Whether you are a longtime member of our community or a newcomer seeking spiritual nourishment, you are always welcome at the Islamic Center of Inglewood.
